Alta Museum in Hjemmeluft
South from Alta is the archaeological main attraction of Norway: The rock carvings in Hjemmeluft are 2500 up to 6200 years old. After discovery in 1973 the rock carvings had been listed in the world heritage of the UNESCO. The Alta Museum moved to Hjemmeluft. The museum was choosen to the European Museum of the year 1993. Additional to the rock carvings the museum has historically collections about fishing, slate quarry, traditional costumes of the people of Sami and an exhibition to the history of Sautso dam.
